Travel in the valley of the Maurienne the longest valley of the Alps

At the beginning of the year, I had the chance and the opportunity to go several weeks in the Vallee de la Maurienne, located in the department of Savoie, in France. I went to several skiing areas, in fact there are 1600 km of varied slopes allow the practice of all winter sports.

I was staying in the town of Saint Jean De Maurienne, the birthplace of the famous Opinel knife, folding pocket knife with wooden handle, with the symbol of “hand crowned” on the blade. So I was not stuck in a ski resort, and I could be roaming…

All the stations had not yet snow, then you had to go like hunting, “hunting for snow”. I am going in first  to “La Toussuire”, at 1800m of altitude, then to “Albiez-Montrond” located on a panoramic space at the foot of the Aiguilles d’Arves. I tried the resort of “Karellis” resort in the heart of the Alps. At 1 hour by car, I returned to “Valfrejus”, which I already knew.

The first day when I came to the ski resort of Valfrejus, I was very lucky. While I was queuing to buy the ski lift packages, as I was the last in the line someone came to offer me his packages of ski lifts, which he had already bought, because he had to leave, his holidays were over. Not bad, a free skiing day…

Most of my stay, I stayed in the domain of sybelles, this is a beautiful and large ski area, more than 300 kms of tracks on six stations. The Sybelles ski area is the largest ski area in Maurienne and one of the largest ski areas in France.
