Dinan boasts one of the richest architectural patrimonies of Brittany

Taking advantage of an appointment in the city of Dinan, in the department of Côtes d’Armor, in Brittany, I was able to visit this city that I did not know. I spent several hours with my camera and immortalized its magnificent medieval architecture.

The town of Dinan, a preserved medieval heritage with a remarkable architecture of the eighteenth, the green landscapes of the Rance. Dinan boasts one of the richest architectural patrimonies of Brittany and proudly raises its crown of 2,700 meters of ramparts, with its 14 defensive or watch towers, its 4 monumental gates and an enormous dungeon built for the Duke Jean IV.

Bertrand Du Guesclin distinguished himself during the Hundred Years’ War by liberating, in turn, Normandy and Brittany. His heart rests in the Saint-Sauveur basilica. But another personality made the city famous. It was Anne of Brittany who chose, in the 15th century, to retire there after the death of her husband King Charles VIII.

Timber-framed house rue de la Mitrie, Dinan with its old streets lined with timber-framed houses with gables, corbelled floors, wooden porches, testimonies of the 15th and 16th centuries, its Renaissance hotels, its high mansions The Age of Enlightenment, its Romanesque and Gothic churches, its former convents, its chapels and its numerous shops, the city of Dinan has retained its charm of yesteryear.

Between its cobbled streets, its shops of all kinds, its many crêperies and other nice restaurants, the historical center of Dinan is a jewel of discovery and of walk not to be missed
