La guarde Guerin a medieval village of France

About This Project

La guarde Guerin a medieval village of France

Second series of photographs of the village “La Guarde Guerin” which is a medieval village considered as one of the most beautiful village in France.  In 1992 La Garde-Guérin won the ranking in “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France” (one of the most beautiful village in France). Located in the south of the department of Lozère, “La Guarde Guerin” is located at the gate of the Cevennes at almost 900 meters of altitude.

In the alleys, it is almost possible to feel the knights who occupied the place. The knights were called Chevaliers Pariers – from the Latin Pares: equal – for these men, equal in rights, equal in duties, owned the fortified village in co-seigniory, as well as the chemin de Régordane, from Villefort to La Bastide. It was the most difficult, the most desolate, the most dangerous part of this path. Each had a “parity”, also known as the “share” or “portion” of that common property, for which he assumed the expenses and collected the revenues.
