Le Pouget renovated hamlet of the 1700s of the town of Villefort

When I had some free time I went to Le Pouget village, in the heart of the Cévennes National Park, in Lozère (French department in the north of the Occitania region). Le Pouget is 3 km from Villefort, 2 hours north of Nîmes and 1H30 south of Puy-en-Velay by car.

In the 1960s it was abandoned. Around 1970, a European association led by Belgians restored the houses in the pure Cévennes tradition. Nowadays it receives many visits. Wonderful site overlooking the Lozère and the valley of Villefort. One can even see in the distance the fortified village of Guard Guerin.

Village located near Villefort, typically Cévennes, a handful of houses all in stones, overlooking the valley and surrounded by chestnut trees. Its isolation is part of its charm. It is not to be discouraged by its access, a typical road “communal”, the village acting as terminus. The source of water adds a note of freshness that must not be unpleasant during the strong summer heat.

It is possible to rent the houses for one or several days, to fully enjoy the tranquility of this wonderful hamlet.
